Where Am I?
Welcome to my website, and thank you for visiting!
I am an artist photographer -so called because my work all starts with my camera, but I use a variety of techniques and post production to achieve the look and feel I want for a particular image.
Photography has become commonplace, thanks in part to the mobile phone and the advent of online apps and platforms which make for easy and instant mass distribution. However, “just because people use Instagram and take cell phone pictures, it doesn’t make the pictures meaningful, any more than a text someone sends a friend is great literature” - Steve McCurry
As a photographer and artist, I am challenged to overcome this position and this leads me to search for new ways of interpreting the landscape around me. The opportunities that digital photography and post production have created allow for fantastic new possibilities and new ways of presenting my work. In this show, all my work begins in camera, I then use several different techniques, such as Multiple Exposures, Intentional Camera Movement and finally work in the digital darkroom to create images that I feel offer a different and more unique and personal view of the scenes I photograph.
I think these two quotes from photographers who worked long before the digital revolution are very appropriate!
“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” — Elliott Erwitt
“Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary.” – Cecil Beaton
My works are all giclée prints, printed on Hannemühle Photorag Pearl 320gsm 100% cotton paper using Epson Ultrachrome Inks.
